Olive trees were in abundance during the ancient Israelites time in the Land of Israel. Olive trees can be found all over Israel, from the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem to the very top of the Galilee and Golan Heights. Even today, you can find olive trees in Israel that date back over 2000 years ago and have witnessed the rich history of the country? To think that the olive trees in the Garden of Gethsemane have witnessed the prayers of Jesus the night before his crucifixion! It has become such an important part of the spiritual history, it is mentioned in the Psalms to symbolize faithfulness and steadfastness:

“But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust in the mercies of God forever and ever.” (Psalms 52:8)

Paul uses the grafting of wild olive branches into the natural olive tree to describe the process of Gentiles coming into the faith, Romans 11:17 states:

“If some of the branches have been broken off, and you, though a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root… “
