Five People Killed in a Shooting Attack at the Ramot Junction in Jerusalem

Introduction

Overview: A deadly shooting occurred this morning at the Ramot Junction in Jerusalem. Two Palestinian assailants, who did not have legal residency in Israel, opened fire at a bus stop, hitting two buses that were caught in traffic. Four men and one woman lost their lives. Additionally, six people were wounded—one in critical condition and four in serious condition.

The attackers were neutralized at the scene by a combination of security forces and a civilian. An automatic weapon used by one of the assailants was found at the site. Security measures were quickly escalated: crossings around Jerusalem were closed, preventing movement into or out of the area.

Emergency Response: Magen David Adom (Israel’s EMS) dispatched multiple teams immediately. Paramedic Nadav Teib described a chaotic scene—unconscious victims lying near the bus stop, shattered glass, and general unrest. Aid was administered on-site, and the wounded were transferred to hospitals.

MDA CEO Eli Ben reported that blood reserves were mobilized from the central blood bank in Ramla to support Jerusalem hospitals.

Eyewitness Account: Ezer Bir, head of United Hatzalah, recounted that the shooting began while victims were stuck in heavy traffic, caused earlier by an accident on Begin Road. The assailants began firing toward the bus stop amidst the congestion.

Historical Context: Nearly two years ago, a similar attack took place at the Givat Shaul junction in Jerusalem. That attack claimed the lives of three civilians—a rabbi and two women—and was carried out by two terrorist gunmen in possession of firearms, with one neutralized by a reserve soldier who was killed by return fire.
