Supporting Israel – The Healing Touch
There is nothing in the world that can compare to the struggles that children with cancer battle on a day-to-day basis. Everywhere in the world, including Israel, thousands of infants, toddlers, and youths are suffering from a variety of cancers and are going through tough treatments in order to rid their bodies of this harmful and deadly sickness. As tough as it is for a parent to watch their children endure multiple surgeries, radiation treatments, and chemotherapy, it is even harder to watch their children try to live a somewhat normal life confined to hospital rooms or in and out of treatment.
Jesus once said, “Let the children come to me, and stop hindering them, because the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these” (Matthew 19:14).
Children are the future. Children need to be led by example, they need to see the good deeds that are done by others so that they also learn about giving and helping to their neighbors, the same principles that Jesus himself taught. Jesus was always helping those sick and in need, as Matthew Henry’s commentary about Matthew 14:34-36 states:
“Whithersoever Christ went, he was doing good. They brought unto him all that were diseased. They came humbly beseeching him to help them. The experiences of others may direct and encourage us in seeking for Christ. As many as touched, were made perfectly whole. Those whom Christ heals, he heals perfectly. Were men more acquainted with Christ, and with the diseased state of their souls, they would flock to receive his healing influences. The healing virtue was not in the finger, but in their faith; or rather, it was in Christ, whom their faith took hold upon.”
Today, the mission of the Messiah continues to live through our faith. Being the body, we can seek out the opportunity to extend compassion, love and even healing to those in our reach, being a healing touch for Israel. Jesus used these opportunities to show God’s character and shine the light into the dark world of those that battle sickness. The perfect healing that came from Him came to restore more than just the body, touching the heart and the soul, bringing freedom, redemption and hope.
Growing up into a world filled with battles can form the child’s world-view and character, developing an identity shaped by circumstances. Coming into the lives of children with needs is an opportunity to strengthen and straighten our future.
Our compassion for the sick and especially sick children should not stop with words, thoughts and hopes. Jesus didn’t only pray, He also went and touched the sick. That is the reason why Loveisrael.com is partnering with a non-profit organization from Israel called “Larger than Life” to create an opportunity for Evangelical Christians around the world to participate in the emotional and physical healing of children sick with cancer in Israel. These children are Israel’s future, they are the ones that will define Israel of tomorrow. It is a unique opportunity to build bridges of mutual love and respect, being the touching fingers that brings healing and hope.
Throughout the land of Israel, Larger Than Life has teamed up with almost every hospital in order to establish music rooms, computer rooms, and organize activities year-round for the children to participate in. These resources and activities provide a way to stay strong psychologically during the treatment and to have hope for healing. Any contribution is an investment in the future of Israel and a seed of hope into a child’s heart.
